So, its been a while………………….I am still here, promise!
We have been in Gulf Shores, AL for almost a week now and we will be here until Tuesday. Here are my random thoughts on Gulf Shores so far:
- Water is everywhere.
- Military jets sound like they are going to come through the condo windows Monday through Friday beginning at 8am central time. It doesn’t last all day, but it happens.
- No one is here right now………NO ONE!
- #3 is one of my favorite things about being here!
- I can walk the beach and see less than 5 people the entire walk. Sometimes those 5 people are construction workers building beach houses.
- We may be the only people in the condo complex that are less than 65 years old. This same thing happened when we were on Edisto Island, SC.
- I get weird looks at the pool….I can see the older residents trying to figure out why I am here. They refuse to ask me and they also don’t invite me to join their conversations. It is kind of a game I play now, how long can I be in the same place as them without them talking to me beyond saying hi 🙂
- The older residents talk loud so if you eavesdrop, you find out the names of good restaurants!
- Oil rigs. I can count 10 on a clear day.
- I had a Forrest Gump moment yesterday when going for my walk. There was a shrimpin boat out in the gulf.
- Commercial. It is very commercial here.
- We can be in Florida in 25 miles or 35 minutes.
- Everyday since Monday there have been 4 jets flying in formation over the gulf practicing. Today there were military helicopters too.
- Lots of restaurants close here from Thanksgiving through Christmas. Most other places have shortened off season hours.
- It is not my favorite place we have been, but it is very nice. This actually makes me pretty happy. I had a fear that I would fall in love with everywhere we visited, and now I know that won’t happen.
- There is a Christmas parade here tomorrow and I am making Jerry go if it doesn’t rain.
- Currently, Jerry is on the deck doing a rain dance….
