Ya know how when you’re driving or out doing something the mood strikes you to do something else, but you can’t cause working on your phone while driving might cause death?
Yeah, that’s been happening to me a lot lately. I have moments where I’m like “oh this would be great to post” and then I get to my computer later that night and like right now, I have no idea what it was. Well, almost.
First, I keep coming past this phrase that I’m claiming. (If there is anyone who wants to see if it exists, please let me know so I don’t steal it):
I don’t remember what Good feels like, but I feel GREAT!
-Jerry
Sometime during early recovery, someone asked me how I felt and this is all I could think. And even now today I feel better than I think I did a week ago, but I honestly don’t remember exactly how I felt. And before surgery, was I just running around too much? Or was the heart murmur really affecting me?
The surgeon asked me when we went in for a checkup after “How do you feel?” and physically I felt like I think I did prior? But maybe not?

Audio books are awesome! And when your driving a lot, even more so.
“The Man Who Knew the Way to the Moon” By Todd Zwillich is a good listen.
At one point, and what really stood out to me wasn’t about the main plot line, but that a guy named Wernher Von Braun was one of the most important reasons why the US won the space race. Why do I bring this up? Cause he was a Nazi. Check him out.
Then, I don’t know if this happens to you, but it seems when I get interested in something like this, I start picking up a LOT of similar situations.
While listening to the music for “Alexander Hamilton” the musical (we’re going to see soon!), you hear about Benedict Arnold, who could have changed the outcome of US History when George Washington gave him full command, but his plot was caught and he fled to Britain. Check him out.
There’s others but those are the two that jump out. And while having a conversation with a good friend while walking through Charleston the other night, he said “It doesn’t matter what people say about slavery, slavery was ‘complicated’ and lots more happened than what it seemed” and then we talked about slaves owning slaves, and being free didn’t really mean you were free. The human condition is something.
LAST (for now)
Fishing the ocean (or salt-water) is nothing like fishing in a lake or even fresh-water rivers and streams. I usually catch something at least 1 out of 5 times in fresh-water. I’ve caught 0.5 (2 wiggled off right as pulling out of the water, they 1/4 count). I usually don’t do live bait often, cause it’s just a pain to keep alive, or cut up, and extra stuff to take. But around here, seems it’s the way to go.
So in short, what have we been up to. I’ll leave you mostly with lots of pictures below, with titles, but, since my last post… 42 days ago…
Four of those weeks we were in Detroit for “recovery” which was good. I’m hugely lucky in that I went into surgery pretty much already healthy so as I started, every day I forgot what good felt like but felt great, and better than the day before. Today, pushing on the incision site doesn’t hurt, but doesn’t feel good either. That and the click is all that’s left. I’ll see if I can get some photos up to show progress.
Then for just under a week, we stayed with good friends and went into our respective offices. We’ll I guess I went into Nicole’s one afternoon so she could show everyone I was alive and not just saying so. =)
Since then we’ve been in Edisto, South Carolina. Had time to go fishing, check out Charleston, SC, meet up with an old boss/mentor/friend, meet up with another friend from FIRST, more fishing, and learned a good desk is also a good place to iron (see pics).
3 days to go here and we make a few short stops then back to Detroit. Staying with more good friends and get to meet my Cardiologist outside of the hospital and explain to her that this is a crazy ride, how do I manage my clicker while I’m out and abroad? Lots more after this, but we’ll get to it as it comes.
Here’s some pics:
Walking the beach Edisto, SC Edisto, looking North East Edisto beach from Coot’s Bar & Grill Our building, can you see Bronto? He is outside our door. My workstation in Edisto!
